Scholarships

Students at the School of Politics and International Relations have several scholarship opportunities.  The School itself runs three scholarship programs, including the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship. Then, there are five different scholarships offered by the University, seven by federal and provincial governments or institutions such as the Higher Education Commission, and three other scholarship programs, including one by the USAID. These scholarships benefit both students in need and on merit. Their brief description is as follows:

 DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS

 Chinese Ambassador Scholarship

This merit-cum-need-based scholarship is awarded to 5 under-graduate students enrolled in BS in International Relations and BS in Political Science programs at SPIR. Successful candidates are selected from amongst the top 20 position holders in terms of their CGPA score in an academic year. Preference is given to needy students. The scholarship is funded by the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and hence named after the Chinese Ambassador, and the award amounts to Rs.150,000 per student. The SPIR Scholarship Committee selects the candidates in Fall Semester each year and forwards their names to the QAU’s Office of Students’ Financial Assistance (OSFA).

 Mr. & Mrs. Ameer Ahmed Siddiqi Scholarship

This merit-cum-need-based scholarship is awarded to two students covering full tuition fee for two semesters. It is awarded under an Endowment Trust Fund established in the memory of Mr. & Mrs. Ameer Ahmed Siddiqui, the parents of former SPIR professor Dr. Rukhsana A. Siddiqui. Interested students can apply for this scholarship to OSFA.

Syed Hamad Raza Shaheed Scholarship

Two scholarships covering departmental fee are awarded each semester – one to needy students and another to students on the basis of merit. The scholarship is named after late Syed Hamad Raza, an alumnus of SPIR, who died in mysterious circumstances in Islamabad in 2007 while serving as Additional Registrar in the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Funds are provided by Hamad’s family. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

QAU Merit Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded each semester to students who secure top 3 positions in respective classes. It amounts to Rs.15,000 for 1st position, Rs.12,000 for 2nd position and Rs.8,000 for 3rd position. The SPIR Office forwards the names of its top position holders at OSFA.

QAU Financial Assistance

This is a need-based assistance. Deserving students are interviewed by the Departmental Scholarship Committee of SPIR and selected students are offered Rs.1,000 per semester by OSFA.

ASA Merit Scholarship

This merit-based scholarship is awarded each semester to one outstanding student from amongst all the university students. Interested students can apply for this scholarship to at OSFA.

QAU Alumni Scholarship

Under this program, several need-based scholarship are offered by the QAU Alumni Association to deserving students each semester, covering full tuition fee and hostel dues for the entire period of their studies at QAU. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

M Phil/PhD Fellowship

This fellowship is awarded to outstanding scholars who attain 75 % marks in a semester. Rs. 1,500 per month is given to MPhil students and Rs.2,000 per month is given to PhD scholars. Interested students can apply for this at OSFA.

GOVERNMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Pakistan Baitulmal Scholarship

This is a major need-based scholarship offered by Pakistan Baitulmal to needy university students covering the reimbursement of their full tuition fee. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Program

This Program is meant for needy students from less developed areas of Pakistan. It covers full tuition fee as well as admission, registration and library fees. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

HEC Merit and Need Based Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded by the Higher Education Commission to outstanding and needy students, covering tuition fee and stipend of Rs. 6,000 per month. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

HEC Scholarship under Aghaz-e-Haqooq-Balochistan

Students hailing from Balochistan are eligible for this scholarship. The award includes stipend of 18000 per month, book allowance of Rs. 5,000 per year and tuition fee waiver of up to 100,000. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

Balochistan Education Endowment Fund

This scholarship is entitled to students hailing from Balochistan and covers the entire semester fee, hostel dues, library charges and a stipend of Rs.5,000 per month for hostel residents and Rs.3,000 per month for days scholars. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

Punjab Education Endowment Fund Scholarship

This scholarship is offered by the Government of Punjab to both talented and deserving students. It covers entire semester fee, hostel dues, library charges and a stipend of Rs. 5,000 per month for the residents of hostel and Rs. 3,000 per month for days’ scholars. Shahbaz Sharif Merit Scholarship for MSc Students

This merit-based scholarship is offered to MSc students at university who secure 60% marks/CGPA 2.5. For details, see: www.peef.org.pk Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA

OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS

USAID Merit & Need Based Scholarship  

This scholarship is awarded to both outstanding and deserving students at the university. It covers entire semester expenses, including tuition fee, hostel dues, library charges and a monthly stipend. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

Zainab Habibullah Endowment Scholarship

This scholarship covers the departmental fee of four needy students and is offered each semester. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.

Hakim Ali Muhammad Memorial Scholarship

Hakim Ali Muhammad Memorial Scholarship, amounting to Rs.20,000 per semester, is awarded to deserving students. Interested students can apply for this scholarship at OSFA.
